EBENSBURG —  Cambria Township police have arrested one suspect and are looking for a second in the theft of three diamond rings valued at $11,500 from Decker Diamond Jewelers.

John Charles Illingworth, 23, of Indiana, has been charged with theft, conspiracy to commit theft, retail theft and disorderly conduct.

He was arraigned Friday before on-call District Judge Michael Zungali and lodged in the Cambria County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bond.

Township police have obtained a warrant for the arrest of Daniel G. Wyers, also of Indiana, on the same charges. As of Tuesday, Wyers remained at large. Police asked that anyone with information on his whereabouts call them at the nonemergency number: (800) 281-1680.

Two men entered the jewelry store around 4 p.m. Nov. 6, and one of them began looking at the rings. Police said the men fled with three diamond rings.

The store is located at 212 Jamesway Road, just off the four-lane Route 22 in the township.

Police Officer Andrew Intihar Jr. said in a sworn affidavit that the police received multiple calls about one of the suspects, leading him to identify Illingworth as one of the alleged thieves.

Police said they were able to get the help of one of Illingworth’s friends, who drove him to the township police station, where the suspect was taken into custody.

Illingworth confessed to the theft, police said.

A preliminary hearing for Illingworth is scheduled for Nov. 20 before District Judge Fred Creany of Ebensburg.
