Marathon runner injured by car; driver cited

— A man struck by a car while running the Johnstown Marathon was in fair condition Monday, hospital officials said.

Meanwhile, Johnstown city police say the driver of the vehicle will receive several citations for the accident.

Nick Mitrus, 83, of Johnstown, struck a parked car before hitting the runner Sunday morning while turning onto Iron Street from Benshoff Street, Johnstown police Capt. Andrew Frear said. Police said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

The marathon runner, Eric Curry of Davidsville, was taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment and remained there Monday, hospital spokeswoman Francine Bodnar said.
