More than 1,000 take part in Light the Night event

— More than 1,000 walkers hit the pavement Saturday for the Light the Night Walk in Richland Township.

The 12th annual walk raised money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia chapter.

This year’s goal is $120,000, campaign coordinator Erika Moul said.

“It’s growing bigger and bigger every year,” Moul said against a backdrop of red and white balloons.

Last year, the benefit raised $117,000, she said.

A pre-walk celebration was held at Blackington Hall on the Pitt-Johnstown campus.

Refreshments, raffles and live music from PT Cruiser revved up the walkers before they ventured into the cold rain.

The program was hosted by WJAC’s Tim Rigby.
