Police: Man held group at gunpoint

— A Johnstown man was charged Friday with robbery after police said he displayed a .357 Magnum handgun and robbed four people of $50 in a dispute over drugs.

West Hills Regional police said Robert Sweeney Goas Jr., 23, allegedly robbed the group on Sept. 21 near the basketball courts at Olive and State streets in Southmont Borough.

In a criminal complaint, police said Goas approached three juveniles and an 18-year old-and demanded $40 for drugs.

When the group refused, Goas allegedly “pulled a handgun partially from his pocket” and then demanded $50.

The extra $10 was for gas money, the alleged robber said.

Police said they later recovered a loaded handgun.

Goas, of the 300 block of Market Street, was charged with robbery, reckless endangerment, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property and disorderly conduct.

He will answer the charges before District Judge John Barron of Upper Yoder Township.
