City teen bound to court in gun theft

JOHNSTOWN — A Johnstown teenager will appear in Cambria County court on charges that he stole a gun and later used it to shoot a man.

Shaquille McCord, 19, of Solomon Homes, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Leonard Grecek of Roxbury.

City police alleged that McCord climbed through the window of an apartment at Solomon Homes on

June 2 and stole a .45-caliber handgun.

McCord was charged with burglary, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass.

Police also alleged that McCord used the handgun to shoot Jeremiah Haselrig, 20, several times in Haselrig’s apartment on Messenger Street on June 21.

Haselrig was treated at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown for gunshot wounds to the torso and arms.

Police said they are looking for a motive.

McCord was charged with conspiracy to commit criminal homicide.

He is awaiting a preliminary hearing in the shooting case.
