West Hills stray finds a home
A stray dog that became the darling of residents in the Luzerne and Palliser streets area of the West Hills was adopted Friday.
Winnie, a female terrier mix estimated to be about 5 years old, was adopted by Desiree Sirko of Johnstown, said a spokeswoman for the Humane Society of Cambria County, where Winnie had been staying. Sirko has a husband and three children.
The adoption procedure was paid for by Richard Poole, the spokeswoman said.
Residents of the two streets banded together to rescue Winnie, who had been roaming the neighborhood. They eventually were able to catch her in a humane trap and an animal-control officer took her to the society’s shelter.
