A fatal shooting occurred in downtown Johnstown early Friday.
Jamil Gray, 37, a black male, was killed shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Rowley Alley. The victim had a Johnstown area address, according to the city’s police chief, Craig Foust.
Gray was hit multiple times.
“He was basically shot everywhere,” said Cambria County Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski.
The police have not publicly identified a suspect.
“We’re basically starting from ground zero,” said Foust. It’s very early in the investigation. Detectives are working on it,” he added.
No motive for the killing has yet been given.
“We’re still trying to put this all together at this time,” said Cambria County Assistant District Attorney Forrest Fordham.
The victim had a lengthy criminal record, dating back to at least 1995, with arrests in Cambria and Allegheny counties.
Gray was arrested locally in August 2011, when his place of residence was listed as Pittsburgh.
According to court records, he was facing four felony and two misdemeanor charges stemming from that incident.
Anybody with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Johnstown police at 533-2074. The county’s emergency center can be reached at 800-281-1680.
