Altoona hospital to discuss takeover by UPMC

ALTOONA —

The Altoona Regional Health System says it plans to discuss an affiliation with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Altoona officials say in a Wednesday statement that no final decisions have been made, but an affiliation could enhance services.

UPMC spokesman Paul Wood says they look forward to further discussions. UPMC, which already owns 19 hospitals in western Pennsylvania, is based in Pittsburgh.

Altoona Regional has 380 beds.
