Residency program earns high honors

JOHNSTOWN — The surgical residency program at Memorial Medical Center has received the highest recognition from its national accreditation organization.

The program earned a five-year accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, which expects teaching hospitals to demonstrate a commitment to excellence, education and research.

“It is very unusual for a community-based surgical residency program to receive anything more than a three-year accreditation,” said Dr. Russell Dumire, program director.
