Child assault defendant waives right to hearing

JOHNSTOWN — A Johnstown man accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl and forcing her to make a video of herself naked will answer multiple charges in Cambria County court.

Jonathan Enrique Silva, 40, of the 300 block of Cypress Avenue, waived his right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge Leonard Grecek of Roxbury on Thursday.

In a criminal complaint, city police said Silva sexually assaulted the girl at his home at times from May until October and then told her to tell no one or he would go to jail.

The girl said Silva bought her an Xbox to buy her silence, police said.

Police said the girl told them that one day Silva would not allow her to leave the back room of the residence until she used his cellphone to make a video of herself.

Officers later recovered the cellphone.

Silva is chargedwith attempted involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, aggravated indecent assault, sexual abuse of children, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors. He also is charged with obscene and other sexual materials and performances in regard to the video.

Silva was returned to the Cambria County Prison on $35,000 bond.
