JOHNSTOWN — A website that promotes Johnstown as “a progressive community in southwestern Pennsylvania” has been launched by the city.

Users are greeted by a slideshow presentation with images of the colorfully lit Stone Bridge, Central Park and City Hall. It describes Johnstown as a family-friendly municipality with good schools and health care facilities, along with scenic beauty and a high quality of life. The website, cityofjohnstownpa.net, replaced an out-of-date design that had been used until recently.

“We needed to start fresh,” said Carlos Gunby, the city’s finance director.

The site also offers information about ordinances, code enforcement procedures, taxes, fire department outreach, public works and other aspects of government.

“We’re going to be trying to use the site as kind of an information hub for the city going forward and putting up as much documentation as possible,” said Gunby.

In the future, the city plans to create a service where residents can make payments online for taxes, parking, etc.

“With today’s technology and the functionality we’re attempting to build very soon – having payment processing online – a new site was a necessity,” Gunby said.

Gunby, the city’s land management coordinator, Melissa Komar, and Ebensburg’s Precision Business Solutions worked together to design the website.
