Two Johnstown men were jailed Tuesday after city police said they beat and robbed another man of $550.
Police charged Rahfeale Hinton, 18, and Brandon E. Zepeda, 20, with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and simple assault. Zepeda also was charged with fleeing to avoid apprehension.
In a criminal complaint, police said a man reported he had just cashed his check for $850 on Monday and had placed $550 in his wallet.
The man was walking along Coleman Avenue around 5 p.m. when he was attacked from behind, knocked to the ground and robbed of his wallet, police said.
The man identified Hinton in a photograph as one of his attackers, police said. The man also identified Zepeda.
Police said that when they went to Zepeda’s house, he ran. He was found hiding in a garage in the 700 block of Grove Avenue, near where Hinton lives.
Hinton was arrested when he arrived home.
Police said both suspects admitted to robbing the man.
Hinton and Zepeda were arraigned by on-call District Judge Max Pavlovich of Richland Township.
Hinton, of the 700 block of Grove Avenue, and Zepeda, of the 200 block of Charles Street, were sent to the Cambria County Prison after each failed to post 10 percent of $20,000 bond.
