“Come Touch the Robe,” the annual cantata of Conemaugh Township Area Ministries, will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. David’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 401 N. Main St.
The cantata will be performed by a chorus of nearly 30 members from local churches.
It will be directed by St. David’s minister of music, Michael A. Busija, with accompaniment by Lori Anton and narration by Sonya Andrews.
The cantata will allow the audience to encounter the Christ of healing, glory, authority, humility and victory by using the simple garment Jesus wore as a thematic device to recount the interaction of those who were with him during his last days on Earth.
A pysanky egg exhibit by artist Allen Krynicky will be on display during the cantata. His works have been highlighted in articles, local television programs and local art exhibits.
A free-will offering will be taken to help defray the cost of the cantata. Light refreshments will follow the performance.
“Flowery Sunday: Slovak and Rusyn Easter and Spring Traditions” will be presented by the Slovak Heritage Association of the Laurel Highlands from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Am-Slo Club, 85 Lenhart St., Johnstown.
The Slovak word for Palm Sunday is loosely translated as Flowery Sunday.
The program will feature exhibits and demonstrations including pysanky by Ron Wanko, Morena dolls with Ethel Gaspar, wedding aprons made by Dolly Yonkoski and palm weaving.
Food exhibits and demonstrations will include potato haluski by Dennis Ragan, pierogi by A.J. Rovan and his family, a special two-flavor kolace by Bernie Mitrus, and Agnes Bardar’s fast and easy pagac.
