Edder's Den gets reprieve

EBENSBURG — The embattled Oakhurst bar closed earlier this week by a judge’s order likely will be back in business as early as tonight.

A consent order reached between Cambria County District Attorney Kelly Callihan and David Weaver, the attorney representing Edward Gawel, owner of Edder’s Den, was approved by Judge Timothy Creany just minutes ago.

The agreement calls for the sheriff to turn the keys to the Sheridan Street bar over to the owner today with the understanding that he will implement a number of changes in a timely fashion:

A partial list follows:

*Install electronic equipment and require all patrons entering the bar to swipe identification.

*Move closing time from the current 2 a.m. to 1 a.m.

*Install video surveillance cameras to monitor a parking lot adjacent to the bar.

*Gawel or his representative will conduct hourly inspections of the outside of the bar.
