A motorist was taken to Memorial Medical Center after crashing her car twice into an Arby’s restaurant at 1243 Scalp Ave. around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
“An elderly white female, for unknown reasons, accelerated over a curb and then put her car in reverse and went back and did it again,” Richland Township Patrolman Jarod Quist said, adding that the woman hit another portion of the restaurant the second time.
Store employee Brittany Knox said, “She just hit the throttle and kept trying to go.”
Knox said that after the second impact she reached into the car and tried to put it in park, then helped the woman out of the car.
The driver’s name was unavailable, police said.
The damaged Dodge sedan remained in the restaurant’s parking lot around lunchtime Wednesday near a pile of debris.
Store employee Luke Finotti was sweeping up brick veneer dislodged from the building’s exterior and the remains of a concrete outdoor waste can that was damaged by the impact.
Dani Saltarelli, a crew chief at the restaurant, said he was thankful no one appeared to be seriously injured by the crash.
The woman behind the wheel was “shaken up” but appeared fine, Saltarelli said.
