Mine reclamation lauded

JOHNSTOWN — The $618,987 reclamation of an abandoned coal mine in Susquehanna Township will remove hazards and open the way for development, township supervisors Chairman Terry Stafford said.

Work by Earthmovers Unlimited of Kylertown began this month and is scheduled to conclude by July, state Sen. John Wozniak, D-Westmont, said Thursday.

He commended the state Department of Environmental Protection for moving forward on the Susquehanna Township project and another in Clearfield County.

“It is imperative that we continue to take steps to protect and preserve our environment – and reclaiming abandoned mines is one important way we can enhance our water quality and improve our natural resources,” Wozniak said.
