In brief: Gallitzin deaths investigated

GALLITZIN — State police in Ebensburg said they are investigating the deaths of two people in Gallitzin on Saturday.

Police said Ryan Joseph Louttit, 22, and James Francis Flaugh Jr., 33, died inside a home on Forest Street in the borough sometime between 4 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Police offered no additional details about the cause of the deaths, but said they are being investigated as accidental.

Hastings nursing home fire contained

HASTINGS – A malfunctioning heating unit is being blamed for a small fire Saturday at the Golden Living Center-HAIDA on Third Avenue Extension in Hastings.

Staff at the facility were able to contain the 3:40 a.m. fire before it spread, said Leah McAndrews, assistant administrator.

Six residents were temporarily relocated to another part of the building until extinguisher residue was cleared, she said.

No injuries were reported.

Healing Patch seeking volunteers

Home Nursing Agency’s Healing Patch, a center that provides hope to grieving children and their families, is seeking volunteers.

Healing Patch is a free peer support program for children of preschool age through 18 years.

Anyone interested in learning more about the program is invited to attend an open house from 10:30 a.m. to noon and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Healing Patch, 118 Ebony Road, Ebensburg. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old.

Purchase Line sets kindergarten registration

Registration for 2013-14 kindergarten classes for Purchase Line School District will be held Feb. 28 and March 1 at Purchase Line Elementary School, 16957 Route 286 Highway East, Commodore.

Registration will be by appointment only. Parents should contact the elementary school before Feb. 28 for registration information and a form.

Children who will be 5 years old before Sept. 1 may enroll.

A parent or guardian must bring an official birth certificate, all health and immunization records and the parent or guardian’s driver’s license or other proof of residency.
