A 40-year-old downtown Johnstown landmark has closed.
Kentucky Fried Chicken at 526 Main St. ceased operations Friday evening.
“We were just not profitable,” co-owner Bret Latshaw of Bedford said. “I am closing for business reasons.”
KFC locations at 1420 Scalp Ave. in Richland Township and at 4390 Admiral Peary Highway outside Ebensburg will not be affected, Latshaw said.
“We hope our loyal customers will go to one of the other locations,” he said.
Latshaw and Fisher Inc. of Bedford also operate the Richland and Ebensburg KFC stores.
Twenty-three part-time employees worked at the downtown eatery, an assistant manager said.
Latshaw would not discuss any opportunities for employment at the other locations.
“It’s a sad time, to say the least, because we all need jobs,” assistant manager Brandi Shawley said.
The Main Street location opened in 1972, Latshaw said.
“We’ve had it since 1974,” he said.
He and his wife, Alice Faye Latshaw, also own the Landmark Restaurant at 647 E. Pitt St. in Bedford.
