JOHNSTOWN — Pucks & Paws Night will now include a parade.

On Saturday, the Johnstown Tomahawks will hold a fundraiser for the Johnstown Police Department K-9 Corps. The local junior hockey team’s game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Beforehand, members of the Junior Chiefs Hockey Development Program will march along Market Street, from the Public Safety Building to the Cambria County War Memorial Arena, escorted by members of the police and fire departments. More than 60 youngsters, ranging in age from 5 to 12, are expected to participate and then attend the Tomahawks game.

“They’ll have a great time,” said Junior Chiefs President Mike Page.

Beginning at 4 p.m., the children will tour the Public Safety Building and watch a K-9 demonstration.

“We’re saying thanks to them for coming to the game and supporting us,” said JPD Officer Mike Kanuch, who oversees the corps.

For $5, fans will be able to bring a dog to the game. All of the money raised will go to the K-9 unit. Members of the corps, including at least one dog, will be on hand to meet Tomahawks supporters. Athos, a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois, will drop a ceremonial first puck.
