A dilapidated former pizzeria in Johnstown’s Moxham neighborhood will be torn down to make way for expansion of a Sheetz convenience store.
City Council on Wednesday approved the merger of two small parcels at Ohio Street and Coleman Avenue, a site that will host a Sheetz car wash.
The former Napoli’s Pizza, which has been vacant for years, now sits at that corner and will be razed.
“The site will look really nice. It will clean up the corner,” said Alex Lapinsky of H.F. Lenz Co., a Richland Township engineering firm representing Sheetz.
Sheetz operates a store at Ohio and Central Avenue.
The new car wash would be situated on the other side of an alley that now separates Sheetz and the Napoli’s property.
Sheetz has been expanding its car-wash business; in this area, there are car washes at Sheetz stores in Cresson, Ebensburg and Johnstown’s Cambria City neighborhood.
While the Moxham project simply is an extension of a current business, it also will clear a stubborn blight from a busy street.
