Body of missing rafter found in river

OHIOPYLE — Authorities in western Pennsylvania say the body of a man who disappeared after his raft capsized on a river in western Pennsylvania over the weekend has been recovered.

Jim Juran, operations manager of Ohiopyle State Park, told the (Uniontown) Herald-Standard that the body of 22-year-old Rob Vega of Lancaster was spotted by a members of a guided raft tour Monday evening on the Youghiogheny River.

The paper said the body was recovered at about 7 p.m. Monday in a remote area of the park. The victim was pronounced dead by the Fayette County coroner’s office.

Officials with White Water Adventurers say the man’s raft flipped at a place called Dimple Rock and he was swept about 200 yards downstream, disappearing near an area known as “Swimmer’s Rapid.”
