Defendant pleads to reduced charges

JOHNSTOWN — Geistown police dropped assault charges against a Richland Township man who was accused of assaulting another man outside a restaurant.

Robert John Bennett, 22, was charged in connection with an alleged assault last month at the Orchard Hotel on Bedford Street after he became reportedly became angry watching his ex-fiancee talk to another man.

Police dropped charges of aggravated assault with a weapon, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.

Bennett then pleaded guilty to public drunkenness and a reduced grade of disorderly conduct before District Judge John Barron of Stonycreek Township on Wednesday.  

Bennett, of the 3400 block of Elton Road, was ordered to pay $600 in fines.
