Windber police: Man attacks chief during arrest

WINDBER — A Windber man was jailed Saturday after he allegedly attacked the borough police chief.

Jeffrey Lynn Carr, 53, of the 1500 block of Paint Street, was charged with aggravated assault.

In a criminal complaint, police said they responded to a Paint Street duplex at 11:30 a.m. and encountered Carr on the porch, yelling, after he allegedly smashed the windows on both sides of the residence.

He also smashed a large TV, pushed a refrigerator over and ripped doors from their hinges, according to the complaint.

Chief Rick Skiles shot Carr with a stun gun after Carr struck him in the face. Carr was intoxicated and was violent during the arrest, police said.

He also was charged with simple assault and criminal mischief.

Carr was arraigned by on-call District Judge Douglas Bell of Meyersdale and sent to the Somerset County Jail after failing to post $150,000 bond.
