Arena seat plaques offered

JOHNSTOWN — Instead of giving gifts that get broken, lost or discarded as time passes, the Cambria County War Memorial Arena Veterans Committee wants to remind people it is offering the opportunity to purchase a Christmas remembrance that could last a lifetime.

The group is selling small plaques on seats inside the facility.

Individuals can get a message inscribed on the pieces of metal, paying tribute to a veteran or other loved one.

“It’s a lifelong gift,” said Marty Kuhar, chairman of the veterans committee. “It will stay here forever.”

Hundreds have already been sold since the project started. The cost is $50 per plaque.

Money raised will go toward helping fund the Cambria County Military Hall of Fame and exhibits in the arena.

“The War Memorial is basically the home of Cambria County’s veterans, so that’s why we have the plaques for the war dead and that’s why we have the hall of fame,” said Kuhar.

Anybody interested in buying a plaque can contact Kuhar at 322-1348. War Memorial officials can be reached at 536-5156.
