Kidnapped tot back with family, police say
A 3-year-old kidnapped from the Johnstown area on Jan. 14 has been returned to her family, city police said Thursday.
The girl, allegedly taken to Washington, D.C., earlier this month by a caregiver, was found safe and healthy, Capt Andrew Frear said. Charges have been filed against the caregiver, Belinda T. Hancock, 32, who was caring for the child over the holidays, but no further information was available, Frear said.
Andrews Center resident charged with theft
A resident at Hiram G. Andrews Center on Goucher Street in Upper Yoder Township was jailed Wednesday on charges that he stole a television and other items from a dorm room.
In a criminal complaint, township police allege that James W. Smith, 18, of Pittsburgh, stole a 42-inch Visio color television, a PlayStation 3 system and a refrigerator from a dorm room between Dec. 20 and Jan. 5.
The center’s security personnel found the stolen goods in Smith’s dorm room.
He was charged with theft and receiving stolen property.
Smith was arraigned by on-call District Judge Michael Zungali of Hastings and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $20,00 bond.
