Fatality reported in Shanksville wreck
SHANKSVILLE – State police are investigating a fatal, two-vehicle accident that occurred just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday on Lambertsville Road near Shanksville.
Police reported one death at the scene.
Another person was flown to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, according to Somerset 911.
No other information was available late Thursday.
Ebensburg, Indiana troopers honored
A state trooper from the Ebensburg barracks was one of 53 troopers honored Thursday by a statewide association for their efforts to combat drinking and driving.
The Pennsylvania Driving Under the Influence Association presented its 2013 DUI Top Gun Awards during the organization’s annual meeting at Seven Springs.
Trooper Thomas J. Williams from the Ebensburg barracks and Troopers Chad D. Corbett and Scott M. Smith from the Indiana barracks were honored for fighting drunken driving.
“We continue to be grateful for the hard work and dedication members of Pennsylvania’s law enforcement make towards the elimination of senseless injuries and deaths impaired driving causes on our roadways,” said the association’s executive director, C. Stephen Erni.
The association is a professional organization founded in 1979 to reduce deaths and injuries resulting from DUI. The association coordinates the state Students Against Driving Drunk office.
Penn Highlands to hold financial aid night
Pennsylvania Highlands Community College will hold a financial aid night from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at its Somerset Center, located in Georgian Place on North Center Avenue.
Staff members will provide information on various grant, loan and scholarship programs.

Guard band to present concert in Portage
The Pennsylvania Army National Guard 28th Infantry Division Band, based in Hollidaysburg, will perform at 7 p.m. Monday at Portage Area Junior-Senior High School auditorium.
The concert is free and open to the public. Seating is on a first come, first served basis.
