JOHNSTOWN — Johnstown police released a photograph of the man who last week robbed a First National Bank branch downtown at gunpoint.

City police Chief Craig Foust said a black male with light skin or a Hispanic male wearing a black hoodie robbed the bank on Walnut Street at 1:10 p.m. June 11.

The robber entered the bank, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money, and the robber fled in a stolen pickup truck.

No injuries were reported. At least one customer and several employees were in the bank, Foust said.

The pickup truck had been reported stolen in Old Conemaugh Borough minutes before the bank was robbed, Foust said.

The truck was recovered a short time later near an abandoned building on William Penn Avenue, a few miles from the bank, he said.

The truck’s owner was doing some type of work when his vehicle was stolen.

“For convenience he had his keys in the truck,” Foust said.

Police are investigating whether a second person was involved.

“There was a suspicious person who was in the bank earlier,” Foust said.

“But at this point we’re only looking for one individual.”

The FBI is investigating whether similar robberies have happened elsewhere.

“The FBI is making contact with their people outside the area,” Foust said. “They have the capability to reach out to larger cities up and down the East Coast.”

Anyone with information on the bank robbery can contact authorities at 800-281-1680.
