Bridge work set in W. Taylor, Hooversville
Work is scheduled to begin Monday on two structures on Cooper Avenue (Route 3041) in West Taylor Township.
Charles J. Merlo of Mineral Point will replace the bridges that cross Wildcat Run and a tributary to Laurel Run, Penn-DOT spokeswoman Tara Callihan-Henry said.
Motorists should expect delays, especially Monday while contractors install temporary signals that will control traffic throughout the project.
Work on the $989,000 project is expected to be completed by mid-September.
Motorists traveling in Hooversville should expect delays this week, Callahan-Henry said.
Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance Inc. of Everett will place beams at the Hooversville Bridge on Charles Street (Route 4021).
Work will be done Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. and Thursday from noon to
4 p.m. Work on the $2 million upgrade is expected to be completed by May.
The roadway is being controlled by a temporary signal and a short detour is in place in the borough for Clark Street and Kauffman Drive. These traffic control measures will stay in place.
Firefighters will use grant to buy pump
Middle Taylor Township Volunteer Fire Company has been awarded a $529 grant to purchase a portable pump thanks to a local utility.
The grant was made possible through the Penelec Fund for the Future of Greater Johnstown and administered by the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies.
Red Cross offers variety of classes
The American Red Cross is offering preparedness classes teaching babysitting skills, lifeguarding and first aid at the Red Cross office, 250 Jari Drive in Richland Township.
The new babysitting class gives the option of online learning. Interested residents may enroll this summer by visiting RedCross.org/Babysitting.
The following courses are scheduled Tuesday:
• Adult First Aid/CPR/AED from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., $90.
• Adult CPR/AED from 6 to 9 p.m., $70.
