Supervisors in Upper Yoder Township, looking out for the safety of their police officers, agreed to start the process of buying new bulletproof vests by having the police chief get quotes from various dealers.
Chief Walter Howell said the current vests will reach their five-year life expectancy this year.
Supervisor William Huston said the safety of the officers is something on which the board will not compromise.
In other business, the supervisors reappointed Ronald Budash to another five-year term on the township’s sewer authority. The term is effective May 2.
The supervisors appointed John Onufro to the zoning hearing board to fill a vacancy created when Joseph Veranese was appointed recently as the township’s representative to the Westmont Hilltop Recreation Commission. Officials are not permitted to serve on two boards simultaneously. The term Onufro is filling expires Jan. 3.
Supervisor Scott Hunt said the dates for the spring cleanup and brush collection have been set.
Spring cleanup will take place one day only on the regular garbage day for neighborhoods.
For Monday and Wednesday routes, cleanup will take place the week of May 13.
For Tuesday and Thursday routes, cleanup will take place the week of May 20.
Brush collection is scheduled the week beginning April 29 and the week beginning Sept. 30.
