Laurel View opens fitness center to members

DAVIDSVILLE — Laurel View Village’s request to open its fitness center and pool to a limited membership has been given tentative approval.

Conemaugh Township’s planning commission approved the request this week but limited membership to 150.

Laurel View officials wrote that those dues-paying members would have to be “associates” of the retirement community, for example, resident family members, employees or vendors, and must either join the Laurel View auxiliary or another related group, Township Zoning Officer Mark Walker said.

Laurel View officials have said members would pay to use the gym and pool on a monthly or annual basis.

The fitness center was built years ago for Laurel View residents.

Because of recent zoning law changes, Walker said the township is reviewing whether the matter also will require the township supervisors’ approval before Laurel View can proceed.
