Firefighters douse small golf course fire

Fire crews were sent to Berkley Hills Golf Course on Thursday after a golf cart and small storage shed caught fire.

No injuries were reported.

Cambria 911 officials said crews were sent to the Goucher Street course around 12:30 p.m. and that it was believed fuel from the golf cart, a maintenance vehicle, sparked the small fire.

Blandburg camp hit by burglars

BLANDBURG – State police are investigating a burglary at a camp at the end of Railroad Street in Blandburg.

Police said the thief or thieves forced open a door and took various items including size 10 hunting boots, a gun-cleaning kit and a 6-volt spotlight. The break-in took place between May 2 and Sunday, police said.

Candidates night planned in Johnstown

The Roxbury Civic Club will sponsor a candidates night on Monday.

It is scheduled to begin at

7 p.m. inside Roxbury Church of the Brethren, 112 Sell St. in Johnstown. All candidates for City Council and mayor have been invited to attend and give speeches.

The primary election is set for May 21.

District names football coaches

The Greater Johnstown school board this week renamed eight football coaches and hired three new ones for its varsity and junior high programs.

Renamed as varsity assistant coaches were Mark Mosorjak, Mike McMonagle, Chuck Wyatt and Nate Harfield. New varsity assistant coaches are Rich Price and Kevin Price.

Renamed as Grade 9 coaches were Brad Janidlo and Brian Subich. Renamed as a Grade 8 coach was Bruce Jordan. Will Harris was named as a new Grade 8 coach. Justin Roberts was reappointed as the Grade 7 coach.
