In brief: Patton man accused in burglary

Staff and wire reports

PATTON — A Patton man has been charged by state police with a burglary that occurred March 30 at a location along Route 36 in Clearfield Township.

Brandon Maybush of the 600 block of Fifth Avenue has confessed to several other burglaries that had taken place near the same vicinity, police said. Charges are pending in those cases, police said.

Maybush was arraigned before District Judge Galen Decort of Portage and lodged in the Cambria County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Suspect pleads guilty to narcotics charge

A New Florence area man has pleaded guilty in federal court in Johnstown to a charge of violating federal narcotics law, U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton said.

Brian Davenport, 23, of the 7000 block of Route 22 East, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Kim R. Gibson.

In connection with the guilty plea, from the spring of 2011 to May 15, 2012, Davenport, along with co-defendants, conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin.

Defendant wants statements tossed

GREENSBURG – Attorneys for a man charged with strangling his wife and dumping her body in a wooded area are seeking to have his statements to police barred during his trial, saying he asked for an attorney.

Forty-two-year-old David Stahl is charged in Westmoreland County with criminal homicide in the February 2012 death of Derry Area schoolteacher Rebecca Stahl.

Police said Stahl waived his right to an attorney and told them he argued with his wife

at their home before the slaying.

The public defender’s office said the request was logged two days before Stahl talked to police.
