Two face drug, threat charges

JOHNSTOWN — Two West End residents are in jail after Johnstown police discovered an apparent drug operation while investigating a reported threat with a weapon.

Amanda Martinez, 26, and Earl P. Mitchell Jr., 19, both of the first block of G. Street, face a number of drug and gun charges following their arrest Friday.

City police were first called to their home after a neighbor reported Mitchell had threatened the neighbor with a handgun.

When police confronted Mitchell at his apartment, they noticed fresh snow on his shoes and clothing. They discovered an open window in the apartment with fresh tracks leading to another apartment, which was vacant.

Through the window of the vacant apartment, police could see marijuana packaged for sale. After warrants were obtained, both apartments were searched.

A large amount of marijuana, electronic scales, packaging materials, potting soil, plant lighting, heaters, fans and several guns were seized. Two of the guns had been reported stolen. A bulletproof vest was found in the suspects’ apartment.

The street value of the drugs was estimated at $8,000.

Both suspects were arrested at the scene.

As Martinez was being led out by police, she was heard yelling at the neighbor that the neighbor had made a big mistake and added, “You are going to get killed.”

Both face three drug charges along with receiving stolen property, possession of an instrument of crime, conspiracy and making terroristic threats.

In addition, Martinez is charged with witness intimidation, and Mitchell is charged with simple assault, reckless endangerment, burglary and criminal trespass.

Both were placed in Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $200,000 bond each.
