PAINT — A family of four was chased from their Paint Borough home when fire broke out in an upstairs bedroom Thursday, authorities said.

The fire erupted at the Devin Roberts home at 397 Oak St. around 8:10 p.m., said Bryon Fleck, first assistant chief of the Scalp/Paint Volunteer Fire Company.

Roberts, his wife and two children fled unharmed, Fleck said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage to two bedrooms was estimated at $10,000 to $15,000. The home was insured, Fleck said.

The Red Cross was at the scene to assist the family. Fire crews from Windber and Central City also responded along with Northern EMS.

3-vehicle accident injures 4

Four people were hurt in a three-vehicle accident on Route 271 in East Taylor Township on Friday afternoon.

East Taylor police Chief Ken Smith said a full-size pickup truck crossed the center line and hit a car, which spun into a guardrail. The truck then struck a small sport utility vehicle.

Four people, whose names were not immediately available, were transported to a hospital, Smith said. Two appeared to have moderate to severe injuries and two had minor injuries, he said.

Smith said he did not believe the wet road conditions played any role in the accident. He said he detected no signs of intoxication with any of the drivers.
