NEW – Former Johnstown Mayor Pfuhl remembered as father, friend, "mentor"

JOHNSTOWN — Former Johnstown Mayor Herb Pfuhl was eulogized this morning at a service at Harris Funeral Home in Richland Township.

Bill Harris, a former Cambria County commissioner, told the audience he shared two things with a man he called a friend.

"We were in the minority in that we were both Republicans and both Presbyterian,” Harris said.

He said the former mayor taught him many things.

"Herb Pfuhl was a mentor to many - including me," he said.

Pfuhl’s daughter, Debra Schoming, said her father was a true believer in God, family, and friendship.

"His loyalty ran deep," she said. "He taught us to walk with dignity and pride and to be true to yourself and others."

Richland and Johnstown police departments will provide an escort as the mayor’s body is moved to its final resting place in Grandview Cemetery in Southmont.

Before arriving at its destination, the procession will drive through downtown, passing city hall in a final farewell.
