Two last-minute endorsements were made this week in the 12th Congressional District race.

On Friday, Cambria County Commissioner Doug Lengenfelder became one of the few political figures in U.S. Rep. Mark Critz’s home county to publicly endorse his opponent, Republican Keith Rothfus, an attorney from Allegheny County.

“I am so excited because I’ve been wanting to come out and make this official for many months now,” Lengenfelder said. “It seems like forever. What I’m basically doing is coming out and saying I am 100 percent behind Keith. This is an endorsement.”

Lengenfelder continued: “He is just a wonderful man to work with. I can’t wait for about five more days and then we’re going to be working side-by-side.”

On Wednesday, state Auditor General Jack Wagner offered his backing to Critz during a meeting with veterans at Tulune’s Southside Saloon in Johnstown.

Wagner, a Democrat, previously supported Critz in the 2010 election cycle.

“One of the things that I admire about Mark – and there needs to be more people in Congress like Mark – he’s a moderate,” Wagner said.

“He’s not an extreme to the right or to the left. This guy will differ even with his own president, and he’s done that. And you have to. That’s what the Congress of the United States of America is all about. It’s the check and balance on the government, on the executive branch of government. And he has the guts to do that.”

Election Day is Tuesday.
