Who’s on ‘Feud’?

The answer is: The Boyd family

JOHNSTOWN — Tammy Boyd of Johnstown has big plans if she and her family can strike it rich as contestants on television’s “Family Feud.”

“I wanted to audition for ‘Family Feud’ because I have been watching since I was 10 years old,” Boyd said.

When she saw that the show would hold auditions in Pittsburgh, her family mobilized.

But the process to finally get chosen was tedious. The family applied to be on the show in November 2011 and didn’t audition until July 2012. After numerous auditions and interviews, the family was selected to go to Atlanta, but there was no guarantee that they would be chosen for a telecast.

“They tape five shows a day, and after we played a game, we were told we were not loud enough,” Boyd said. “We got another chance and were told to step up our game.”

After another audition in which producers changed the order of the family’s lineup, the Boyd family achieved a more appealing result.

The family is obligated contractually not to reveal the results of the show, Boyd said.

“If we win, the money will be divided amongst us and most likely put towards bills and student loans,” she said.

The Boyd family team includes Tammy, a science teacher; husband Rick, general manager of the Johnstown Tomahawks hockey team and project manager; daughter Tiffany, a business analyst; daughter Calsie, a college student and athlete; and Tammy’s father, Frank Kocsis, a retiree.

They will be playing for big prize money plus a new car when they appear with host Steve Harvey.

Area viewers will have an opportunity to see how the Boyds fare when their segment airs at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on WJAC-TV.

The Boyds will face off against the Pope family from Newnan, Ga. in front of a live studio audience.

Each family has a chance to win up to $100,000 and a new car, as well as some serious bragging rights.

This region is no stranger when it comes to area families gaining national exposure on the popular game show.

The  McKenzie family of Berlin appeared on the syndicated television show in April 2012. The McKenzie family featured Julie Fisher, her sisters Suzie St. Clair and Wendy Boyer, and nieces Shannon Kosic and Mindy Luteri.
