JOHNSTOWN — Meeting to discuss African heritage center

The African American Heritage Society Inc. will hold a meeting to develop an African American Heritage Study Center at the Heritage Discovery Center at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Cambria AME Zion Church, 409 Haynes St., Johnstown.

The mission of the newly formed society and plans for the study center will be presented and discussed by its board of directors.

The society’s officers are Claudia B. Jones, president; Clea P. Hollis, secretary; and Bruce G. Haselrig Sr., treasurer.

Refreshments will be served. Information: 266-4835.

AAUW to host speaker

The Johnstown branch of the American Association of University Women will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, Richland campus.

The guest speaker will be Sandy Millen, who will talk about Victorian-era jewelry and explain the intricacies of dress during the Civil War period.

This meeting also is a “Shape the Future” event that allows new members to join for half-price.

The meeting is open to the public.
