A Match 6 Lotto jackpot winner from Northern Cambria has yet to come forward to claim his $7.3 million prize.
After a historic jackpot run that began in mid-May, the Pennsylvania Lottery’s Match 6 Lotto jackpot has been won by a single ticket sold in Cambria County.
The lone jackpot-winning Match 6 ticket for Thursday’s drawing was sold at Nic’s Tobacco, 2608 Bigler Ave., Northern Cambria.
Melissa Bobik, a manager at the store for 11 years, received a call at around 8:30 a.m. Friday from lottery officials saying that her store sold the winning ticket.
“We have received a lot of inquiries to see if we knew who bought the ticket,” she said. “But no one has come forward, and I guess I really don’t blame them. They probably want to remain anonymous for as long as they can.”
The store receives a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
“I only hope the winner is one of the locals because we have a lot of regulars who are loyal customers,” Bobik said.
The Northern Cambria store, which is part of a 12-store chain in western-central Pennsylvania, only sells tobacco products, such as roll-your-own products, chewing tobacco, and domestic and premium cigarettes and cigars.
“We would love for someone to come in and buy some cigars because that person won the lottery,” she laughed.
The winner matched all six numbers drawn, 08-10-15-21-35-42, to win a game-record prize of $7,375,082.50, less 25 percent federal withholding.
Bobik said the store has had a few $10,000 scratch-off winners, but nothing like the record jackpot.
“When the lottery office called, I was literally speechless,” Bobik said.
Lottery officials cannot confirm the identity of Thursday’s Match 6 jackpot winner until the prize is claimed and the ticket is validated. Match 6 winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes.
The Lottery encourages the holder of the winning ticket to promptly sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 717-702-8146 and file a claim at Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County, or at any of the Lottery’s seven area offices.
Claims may be filed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lottery headquarters and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at area offices.
The Match 6 jackpot had been growing since one ticket matched all six winning numbers in the May 13 drawing. This jackpot run lasted 41 draws.
The game’s previous record was a $6.9 million prize won in the March 23, 2007, drawing.
The odds of winning the Match 6 Lotto jackpot are roughly 1-in-4.6 million.
