Police: 2 dead in Westmoreland County shooting

GREENSBURG — State police say two people have been found dead after gunshots were reported at a Westmoreland County apartment complex.

Trooper Stephen Limani says someone reported hearing gunfire shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Hempfield Heights complex in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County. That’s about 40 miles west of Johnstown.

Troopers arrived to find two people dead and immediately blocked off a street leading to the complex.

Police weren’t sure whether the suspect was still in the area and were trying to keep people away until they were sure it was safe.

The county coroner’s office says they’re aware of the incident, but have been told to stay away until police can find the perpetrator.

Police haven’t released the names of the victims.
