Local News in Brief | Public immunization clinics scheduled

JOHNSTOWN — Beginning next month, the state Department of Health will be offering a local monthly public immunization clinic.

Beginning Sept. 11 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m., the immunizations will be available at a low or no cost if a family meets income eligibility criteria, according to a release from the office of state Rep. Frank Burns, D-East Taylor Township.

The vaccinations will be available at the department’s local office at 184 Donald Lane, Suite 1, Richland Township.

The vaccinations also will be administered on Oct. 9, Nov. 12 and Dec. 11.

Walk calls attention to Alzheimer’s disease

The Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held Oct. 5 at Legion Park in Altoona.

Participants will participate in a 1- to 3-mile walk and learn more about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment, and support programs and services.
