The Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center at Windber Medical Center honored breast cancer survivors at its Sixth annual Tribute to Survivors event on Sunday.
The celebration was held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church Hall, where survivors and their guests enjoyed a meal and a program focusing on the unique services offered at the center.
“The Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center is here for all of your breast care needs and beyond, including research studies through a partnership with Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the Windber Research Institute, breast cancer support groups, evaluation for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndromes, genetic counseling, and genetic testing, if eligible,” said Dr. Dianna Craig.
Dr. Barbara Cliff, President/CEO of Windber Medical Center echoed that sentiment.
“Windber Medical Center is here for all of your health care needs and those of your family, providing extraordinary patient care,” she said. “It’s not just what we do, it’s who we are.”
The Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center recognizes the importance of life after a breast cancer diagnosis and the journey of survivorship.
Joyce Murtha said to the 130 guests in attendance, “You are our heroes for showing such courage and being such a wonderful example for others. We are proud of you.”
Music was provided by instrumental guitar performer and instructor George Byich.
Survivors mingled with the staff and also signed a tribute poster that will be displayed at the center.
