Region gets its first taste of winter weather

Residents in Cambria and Somerset counties woke up Tuesday to a couple inches of snow on the ground that made for slick roadways during the morning commute.

By 8:30 a.m, Cambria and Somerset 911 dispatch reported only minor vehicle accidents with no injuries.

A spokeswoman for PennDOT said crews were sent out around midnight to begin treating roads with salt and clearing snow. Crews will continue to stay on as needed throughout the day.

No road closures were reported in the area.

In addition, schools in the northern part of Cambria County were operating on a two-hour delay.

The cold snap won't last long. By Thursday, temperatures are expected to be in the 40s with mid-50s by the weekend.
