The Moxham Ninja has gone from fighting crime to being promoted on merchandise.
Todd Kapcsos, 19, of Highland Avenue, recently donned a long, medieval-style black overcoat and other dark clothes, grabbed a baseball bat and went out to fight crime.
His shadowy presence concerned some residents of the Johnstown neighborhood where he lives, and Kapcsos was arrested while prowling through the streets. He faces charges of loitering and disorderly conduct.
But some people in Moxham, which has been plagued by drug-related crime over the past year, have embraced the would-be superhero, dubbing him the Moxham Ninja.
Moxham Deli is selling T-shirts and bumper stickers with cartoon ninjas on them. Proceeds will go toward the Moxham Neighborhood Watch and Kapcsos’ defense fees.
“We figured we’re going to help him out,” said Mark Stachura, a longtime employee at the deli at 671 Linden Ave.
Another business, Village Street Cafe, has introduced The Moxham Ninja drink.
It is described as a shot of espresso that blends into the shadows of a chocolate and hazelnut milkshake. Customers are urged to “try one before they vanish,” according to the company’s Facebook page.
