LORETTO — St. Francis University will hold an open house starting at 10 a.m. Aug. 2. The open house offers prospective students and their families a chance to take a comprehensive look at the university and its facilities.

Shortly after registration at the JFK Student Center, the open house will begin with an academic and activities fair where aspiring students can talk to St. Francis faculty representatives about the more than 30 majors the campus offers, according to a news release.

In addition to the existing majors, the academic and activities fair will offer insight into several new programs, including public health, gaming and new media and an American Sign Language minor.

Extracurricular activities, including 22 NCAA Division 1 athletic teams and study abroad programs, also will be featured.

Following the fair, prospects and their families will be given an opportunity to tour the campus, the oldest Franciscan university in the United States.

They also will be able to see the site of the new science center slated to open this fall, according to the release.

Financially conscious or concerned families also will be able to attend a presentation about the financial aid process.

Financial aid representatives will be available to answer individual questions and to discuss available grants and scholarships.

Interested parties who are unable to make it to the open house may have an opportunity to attend a similar program at a different date, university spokeswoman Marie Young said.

“We actually have them a few times throughout the year,” she said, adding that she feels the experience provides valuable insight to prospective students.
