TIRE HILL — Conemaugh Township police have arrested a man they believe was involved in the sale of a brand of “lethal” heroin dubbed “7 of Hearts.”

Aaron Wade Walters, 24, of the 500 block of Govier Lane, Johnstown, turned himself in to authorities Saturday evening.

He’s been charged with three counts of manufacturing or distributing a controlled substance and was arraigned via video conference by District Judge Douglas McCall Bell.

Walters is being held in the Somerset County Jail on cash bail.

Police allege Walters was involved in the sale of the substance to residents along Govier Lane, two of whom overdosed on the drug Thursday evening.

The particular brand of heroin – which authorities in Cambria County suspect is laced with fentanyl, a potent painkiller – is believed to be responsible for at least 10 overdoses in the area, all of which happened between 6 and 9 p.m. Thursday. So far, no overdose deaths have been reported.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and is being handled in conjunction with the Somerset County Drug Task Force.
