The Somerset County Conservancy Charitable Trust, a private nonprofit organization, recently received a Community Conservation Partnerships Program grant from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The $118,700 grant is being used to acquire the property and infrastructure necessary to provide public access to the Kimberly Run Natural Area. Having the area open to the public will enable individuals, school districts and various other groups to access the various habitats for viewing and environmental studies as well as the more than three miles of walking trails already in place.
The access is located at the end of Craig Road, which is off Berlin Plank Road near the Route 219 interchange. In the spring, the conservancy plans to construct a kiosk with maps and trail guides at the parking area.
