Rep. Keith Rothfus, R-Sewickley, spoke from the U.S. House of Representatives floor for the first time on Monday.
The representative from Pennsylvania’s 12th district called upon Congress and President Barack Obama to help improve the nation’s economy.
“Before we address any other issue grabbing headlines today, Congress and the president need to make a priority of unleashing the potential of hardworking Americans and creating the conditions for a healthy economy,” Rothfus said.
“We must balance our budget, reform the tax code, reduce excessive regulations and expand energy production.”
Rothfus discussed January’s uptick in unemployment during his remarks.
“I rise today in solidarity with those looking for work and a higher income to pay their bills, loans and mortgages,” Rothfus said.
“Those seeking a better lot want to know: Where are the jobs?”
He made the comments during a time set aside for congressmen to make one-minute general speeches.
