JOHNSTOWN — The local Income Tax Assistance Program is being held from 9 a.m. to noon each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday through April 11 at the Johnstown Senior Center, 550 Main St. downtown.

The program is designed to help low-income taxpayers, with special attention to those 60 and older, disabled individuals or people on fixed incomes.

Local volunteers are trained to help taxpayers with federal tax returns in the 1040 series as well as Pennsylvania state income tax returns.

They do not handle complicated tax matters or prepare business returns.

Free, basic tax counseling and income tax preparation also is available at other sites in Cambria County including East Hills Senior Center, Portage Senior Center, Ebensburg Senior Center, Forest Hills Senior Center, Jackson Township Senior Center and Beaverdale Public Library.

Appointments are required at all locations.

Individuals seeking assistance should bring proof of identification; a copy of last year’s income tax return; all W-2s, 1099s and other income statements; information on credits and deductions; and this year’s tax package.

All tax returns are filed electronically at all income tax locations, and a copy of the return is provided.

The senior center will be coordinating appointments for taxpayers who are interested in this service.
