Storm downs trees in Westmont
A strong thunderstorm on Friday evening seemed to concentrate its destructive forces in the area of Fayette and Wyoming streets in Westmont.
West Hills Fire Department Lt. Eron Stoykovich said strong wind gusts knocked down several trees, and a few of the trees struck vehicles and brought down power lines.
One of the power lines fell into a tree, causing the line to arc, Stoykovich said. Penelec assisted firefighters by shutting down the power and clearing the hazard.
Wreck on Route 219 injures both drivers
Both drivers were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Route 219 South at the Route 56 East exit ramp around
4:30 p.m. Friday.
Michael Rosco, 63, of Perth Amboy, N.J., was eastbound on Route 56 when his vehicle struck the median barrier multiple times, Richland Township police said.
Rosco got off Route 56 to enter Route 219 South, but his car traveled down the grassy area at the interchange instead of on the ramp, police said.
Rosco’s car then entered Route 219 South, where it struck another car and then the barrier separating the southbound and northbound lanes. The impact caused Rosco’s car to flip over and come to rest in the northbound lanes, police said.
Both drivers were taken to the hospital. Rosco was in stable condition, police said. Information about the other driver was not available.
City police charge suspect in attack
A Johnstown man fought off a knife-wielding attacker Thursday night, said city police, who later arrested a suspect.
In a criminal complaint, police said Sean Anthony Romney, 24, of the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, was inside the home with another man when an argument erupted about 7:45 p.m. over a cable box.
Romney allegedly threw the cable box at the other man and then came at him with a knife. The man used a chair to fight off Romney, who fled the home, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Romney was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct and harassment.
He was arraigned Friday by on-call District Judge Leonard Grecek of Roxbury and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $10,000 bond.
